And a note about how the opposition keeper (in this case our keeper) made some excellent saves when called upon.

Just watched it. He is insightful. But this is the difference with a proper 9 who positions himself on the shoulder of the last defender.
Piroe rarely does that he prefers to play deeper especially when we are struggling in possession, which invariably crowds the space that Rutter needs, who as a result also drops deeper, which plays into the hands of the opposition.

Watching Bamford live, his movement/runs are very clever.

Not yet, but i've watched PB with my own eyes since Bert got a hold of him, and he's a different animal.

Quite simply we go up if he stays fit, he was cog 3 out of the 3 vital cogs Bert needed for his team to fire on all cylinders.

DF has also obviously realised it as well.

I'll watch it later, busy today, thanks Sid

Yea
We didn't score from those 3 clips and he went offside in one.
Not knocking his work rate , it's his abysmal finishing when he has time to think that concerns me.
I've said all along, he'll still have a big part to play for us, so will cooper this season.

Sorry, '64, been swamped with grading but just had a chance to watch Locky's video. An excellent breakdown of how the game shifted with the subs. Makes sense too, as this isn't the first match where we've seen a team crowd/foul Rutter every time he gets near the ball, stifling play.

I'd add to it that Connor's goal came as a result of the very same concept. In the immediate build up, Roberts make a slashing run through the backline toward the goal. This pulls the defenders and creates the space Geo needs to get into the box. It also put Roberts in the perfect place for his goal-scoring shot.

Thanks for sharing! Carrick Dave had mentioned both Locky and Ger at The View just the other day--I've add both to my favorites.

Watched it but felt he didn't give Roberts enough praise. Roberts was basically playing as a second winger which meant their fullback had to go over to mark Roberts leaving James to have more space and also meant one of their central midfielders having to go to James which meant they were no longer having a numerical advantage against our 2 forwards.

I mentioned before about how Gnonto was coming into the centre a lot which played into Leicester's hands as it meant they could congest the central areas.

Our 3 best moves of the first half, which all should have led to goals was when Gnonto was wider. The Piroe shot came from Gray being very advanced, furthest man forward, and playing a 1-2 with Gnonto. As they had dragged Leicester out of shape Piroe was completely unmarked in the box (see we created space before the subs came on).

The Piroe header was a result of Gnonto being wide and putting the cross in for Piroe, who once again had found loads of space.
The Gnonto chance again saw Gnonto wider and then coming in, again in acres of space.

As such we were fine at creating space when Gnonto was wide and Gray was looking to get forward. In the second half we stopped doing that as much. Gray was having to defend a lot more and Gnonto was coming inside. As such the central area was congested and we had no outlet on the right. Dan James and Connor Roberts came on (combined with Leicester taking off their attacking threat down their left wing) and we started stretching them again. As such when this happened Bamford and Rutter were able to find the space in the same way that Piroe had done in the first half.

Bamford did well but it needed the impact of James and Roberts ganging up out wide on our right and stayings out wide on our right. If James and Roberts don't do that then Leicester keep their shape and have more bodies in the centre.

I've just watched it Sidney, Jeez please don't tell me it's summert new to ya, i've only been bangin on abart PB for weeks, months if not years, him along with KP anchoring and distributing from DM and then Cooper being excellent with his reading of the play and knowing when to pass out and move forward were vital vital elements to Berts work, and all thru the spine of the team.

Anyhows, you go to home games, do me a favour at your next one, please track PB for me, and i mean everywhere you can, you can still watch the game but know where PB is at all times and pick him up to watch and track his movement on and off the ball.

In fact if you do it with any player, you'll find watching a game can be much more interesting, as if you're scouting him, i did it tother week with Gruev ont tele, but you can't really do it from tele it has to be live, you'll soon find the player/s you appreciate the most.

weasel wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 5:19 pm With the media and others suggesting that it was all Leicester until we scored I thought I'd rewatch the match, especially the first half as Leicester did dominate the second half until we scored, and write down the notable moments.

First half:

4th minute - Long range Leicester shot, 24 yarder, from Dewsbury-Hall goes comfortably wide. Messlier unconcerned.

4th minute - From the resultant goalkick, from the above shot, the ball is played to Rodon who takes it into the Leicester half, passes it to Gnonto who plays it wide to Gray, who is the furthest Leeds player forward. Gray lays it back to Gnonto who sets up Piroe, who is unmarked, in the penalty area but blazes over from 16 yards. Summerville was also in the penalty area completely unmarked too. Should have resulted in a goal but instead is a shot off target.

6th minute - Leiceser free kick from 28 yards (foul by Gruev). Freekick floated in headed clear and half volleyed high over the bar by Fatau from just outside the penalty area. Would have needed to be a worldie, or taken a deflection, to score due to the amount of players between the striker and the goal.

8th minute - Leicester shot from 30+ yards scuffed well wide by Winks. At this point in the match stats wise Leicester are on top 3 shots to 1 and 64% possession but Leeds should have been 1-0 up.

11th minute - Leicester cross is headed tamely into Messlier's arms from 8 yards out by Ricardo from a tricky angle. Leicester's best chance so far.

14th minute - Daka has a shot for Leicester from 20 yards. Hit well but looks like it is going over but Messlier takes no chances and pushes it away for a corner.

15th minute - From the resultant corner Faes nods in unmarked at the far post. At this point with Leicester 1-0 up stats would have Leicester in complete control, 6 to 1 and 3 on target.

17th minute - Excellent pass from Piroe finds Gnonto who crosses to an unmarked Piroe who puts his header wide from 12 yards. Same as Piroe's first chance he should be at the very least be getting it on target. Apart from the goal the best 2 chances have fallen to Leeds although the stats just show as off target attempts.

21st minute - Piroe finds Rutter who slips the ball through to a completely unmarked Gnonto inisde the Leicester penalty area. Instead of shooting from 13 yardsGnonto cuts back inside but takes a heavy touch and runs into trouble. The 3rd time in the match a Leeds player has been unmarked in the box with an excellent chance to score - compared to Leicester having one effort from inside the box, from open play, at this point. This opportunity didn't even count as a shot on/off target as Winks got to the ball rather than Gnonto managing to get a shot in.

23rd minute - Summerville bursts free and takes a heavy touch, inside the box, which enables Westergaard to make a tackle. Just like with the Gnonto chance this again doesn't even count as a shot on/off target. As such despite Leeds having the best 4 chances from open play, and 4 great chances all inside the box, all we have to show for it statswise is 2 shots off target.

40th minute - After a lengthy period without much in the way of goalmouth exciement Summerville has a wild shot which goes well over the bar from just outside the box. Noticeable that the commentators have been making comments descirbing Leed's reaction to going a goal down as excellent.

Noticeable points from the first half. Piroe seemed to be under instruction to press Westergaard, which he did fairly well. Gnonto spent a lot of time playing centrally. Gray got skinned 3 times. Leicester didn't have a single chance after their goal
This is why overall i think it was a good game, i think we edged the first half, then they came out all guns blazing 2nd half and put us on the back foot, so for that period, they bossed it, there was good and bad luck all over the shop for both teams, missed chances, disallowed goals etc.

Df then made subs and we got right back at em and got on the right side of some good fortune, tough s**t for them.

But the result could've gone either way on a different day, but the night ended up ours.

Overall i think our best team and DF's current tactics v their best team and tactics - I'd put my house on us.

But it's close, and it wasn't feckin close at the start of the season.

No need for any apology, Ash.

A perfect insight of Paddy, Dan & Georginio's movement & positioning.

No, but injury / suspension will see him in, Pascal is still out but close to coming back.
Cooper will have to be ready if needed, his height could be the key in some tight games as a sub.

Was just in the kitchen singing “let’s go f**king mental “ very quietly so I thought and the wife said “why are you singing that”. I said it’s from the Leicester game. Just got in my head. When I wandered back in the tv room she was singing it 😂
