25 year old Japan International midfielder Ao Tanaka is due for a medical today.

A fee of around £3.5mil has been agreed with his club Fortuna Dusselforf.

A potential bargain in the making?

Earned rave reviews from Ipswich boss Kieran Mckenna when Ipswich played them in a friendly.

"Midfielder Ao Tanaka. Anyone who is serious about football will know a little about him. He has incredible technique. But there are other good players at Fortuna, too.”

8 goals and 4 assists last season in the Bundesliga 2.

He us seen as a hard working and energetic midfielder who is happy tackling on the edge of his box then bursting forward at pace immediately after.

He has earned praise for his work ethic and technical ability.

Last season was his best season offensively by a mile and the exception rather than the norm as one criticising could be He hasn't always provided the goals and assists he should.

But he is a well thought of player with potential to improve.

Only watched half and not overly impressed but I’m sure he’ll be fine. Probably only one of AO, Rothwell or Gruev will start but we need cover and especially if Ampedu is required elsewhere during the season.

Think he's much better than Rothwell from the tape, Gruev for me is a holding mid, and a good one. He's trying to get forward but it's not his forte.
