Burnley v Leeds Utd Match Thread

The start of a really tough run for us.

Cardiff used to be a big bogey side for us, results improved recently vs them but overall they have a better h2h record. And they aren't losing much, 1 defeat in 8.

Coventry have improved under Lampard, top 6 form

Watford have the 4th best home record in the league

Then it's Sunderland, Sheffield United and WBA.

I wonder if Scott Parker is banking on us dropping more points than them in the upcoming fixtures?

Burnley have a comparatively easier run on paper.

They certainly didn't try very hard to win tonight, neither did we tbf really (but slightly more than them)

But wonder if that is partly why.

We've lost three games six months into the season, why should we be concerned about clubs 16+ points below us. OK we may lose a couple of games, but I'm sure those clubs fear us more than we do them.

Play for the draw and hope to make up the gap in the run in where we have harder fixtures.

Because we were trying walk it in, even though they were crowding the box. Gnonto and Firpo could've brought more attack from the bench.

He was never going to play Firpo against Anthony - that would be asking for trouble.

We set up not to lose and hopefully nick a goal. Hence why Gruev started. He is positionally disciplined, offers nothing going forwards.

If we can draw away to a 3rd place team, while having more of the chances, I'm not worried about any of the upcoming fixtures. We also made Sheff U look lame at our place.

In fairness drawing to Burnley at home isn't hard, twas the 7th or 8th draw

But again it wasn't a hiw scared we should be post.

Was merely a perhaps this is why they did this thought.

Didn't expect us to attack massively, assumed DF would be very happy with a draw, safety first etc.

But was surprised Burnley didn't as the home side and needing to make up an all he it small deficit.

So was just offering a potential reason why.

Maybe and maybe not but George Graham had us finish mid table playing in a similar fashion so you never know.

The game is much quicker nowadays, PL teams would have enough quality to break down that Burnley defence.

No difference this season between us and Burnley defensively - the only reason the figures for goals conceded are different is due to their keeper.

I wouldn't go watch Burnley if I lived next door to the stadium.

I have a house in Burnley, that I am doing up, less than a mile form the stadium. Was in Burnley till 7.30 this evening and the wind and rain was horrible. Didn't watch the match as was playing footy myself but sounds like I didn't miss much. There have been a couple of times when I have been up there when Burnley have been playing and you can't hear a thing. I used to live about the same distance from Macclesfield Town's pitch and you could hear the crowd easily. I would guess the Burnley fans going to the games don't have much to get excited about given how they play. Take Trafford out of their side and they would be mid table.

Very sensible tactics from Farke tonight. In the first game Burnley's threat was the coutner attack. They scored from one then had a couple more good opportunites. Farke nullified that threat. Set up for the draw but also gave us the chance to win it - whilst negating the chance to lose it.

Unfortunately the most Leeds result ever, haha... Still can't help but feel like we had a real chance to start pulling away, though. We move on to the next one MOT.

Who the eff is JJ Watts and why are sky talking about him?

Former NFL player who is a minority owner for Burnley. Was a very good defensive lineman. His wife is a former women’s professional “soccer” player. I suspect they were trying to make some sort of American connection just like they do with Leeds and the 49ers, etc.

I'll take the point. My only beef is that it appears we were willing to take a point rather than go for a win. And Burnley were absolutely playing for a draw.

Had the appearance of something prenegotiated prior to kickoff, Paul. That handshake and smile between Farke and Parker was much too pleasant.

Fair question, DDB. Why would Anthony pose so much trouble for Firpo?

Also, Gruev’s corner distribution was horrible. Rothwell was missed. Think his one good kick last game was an outlier.

At the end of the game Farke was dishing out the love to Anthony and Roberts who played for Leeds last season... which I thought a bit strange.
