Re: Arsenal v Leeds Utd Match Thread
I get what Sub’s saying—days like this make it easy to think the only answer is chucking £50m on one or two headline players. But Andrew’s right, we came into this summer with holes in quality all over the squad and nowhere near the budget of clubs like Arsenal. If we’d blown it all on a single name, we’d still be short in four or five other spots. Seems like the approach has to be about getting the overall level up across the pitch, even if it means we’re not matching them man-for-man today (or any other day).andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 5:54 pm I made the point that all Arsenal's signings were over 50 million. How many of those do you think we can make? Maybe 1. And that will make no difference at all. Adding depth and spreading the money is the only way we're going to establish ourselves. And we'll beat worse teams than Arsenal this season

Exactly. Some are acting like Arsenal scored worldies. All the goals were easily avoidable and can happen v any side in the league.

This is how Plymouth, Cardiff etc felt playing against us last season.
If we get one point from the 10 games against the Top 5, it will be an anomaly.

There a stat in golf called 'bouncback'. When you play a s**t shot or screw up a hole, how well do you bounce back with good play.
Tiger Woods was by far the best at this ever! He followed a bogey with an immediate birdie frequently.
We have duffed this one. Learn and come back as strong as possible next week.
As you can tell Im bored now. Flipping between the game and the FedEx Cup final.

Would agree
I doubt anyone is naive enough to have expected a win
But to compete and make it difficult? Even league 2 teams in the cup do that
We haven't even made them play well, soft goals

Hindsight, no? Gruev was a safe bet. Tanaka was man of the match against Everton.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 6:19 pm More solid midfield, especially with Ampadu out, play Longstaff rather than Tanaka.

I’d have gone longstaff over gruev. Also we held a midfielder back (usually gruev) too often which meant Arsenal always had a spare man in mid.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 6:19 pm More solid midfield, especially with Ampadu out, play Longstaff rather than Tanaka.
We never looked like competing in midfield.

To actually defend? Rodon not stand around like a chump ball watching. Not to play out from the back.BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 6:20 pm We're getting beat by one of the VERY BEST TEAMS IN THE WORLD!! In their home stadium. What the hell did some of you expect??

Re: Arsenal v Leeds Utd Match Thread
The approach was safety first. 4-5-1. Flood the midfield and play deep in our half. The problem with that is every Arsenal player is very confident on the ball and off the ball their movement is excellent. We barely pressed in their half because we played in a low block. Great approach if it works. It didn’t. They have too much class.
