Citeh signed Trafford who is an experienced, albeit young keeper. He looked unconvincing with the ball at his feet on Saturday. And now there's talk of Donnarumma who is physical but not good with his feet either.
It's a lottery; initially I thought we'd won with Meslier but he, for me, never progressed at all.

I guess I'm old fashioned, but I'd rather sign a gk who makes saves and commands the box I miss the variety of a gk going long, since everyone just passes to the CB now

I'd say from both myself but mainly Farke, it was clearly evident v Arsenal that the defence weren't coping well with the instant fast press from Arsenal and that we're not that good with the new keeper to trust ourselves - But it's totally understandable for me.
There will be a time and a game for it, but not against the best. Hopefully Perri said this in a chat with Farke, i hope and think he did and that the conclusion is 'ok let's get it upfield from danger and compete again there instead of the risk around our own box'

It's hard to imagine DF wanting to step away from his playing out from the goalie overall? He never has before and even now we rank bottom 3 for long passes overall in the league.

I'd be surprised if we don't see Perri going less direct as the season goes on.

I'd be surprised if we don't see Perri going less direct as the season goes on.

All about choosing the right time to go long and the right time to go short. If we start pumping a few long then the opposition defence may drop deeper, that then opens up more space for us to be able to play out from the back. It also depends on how well we compete for the long balls, if it is us just giving the ball back to the opposition then the oppositon may not adjust and simply keep getting the ball. Against a team like Everton it was better for us to play out from the back, Everton didn't really have a good press and as such we were able to find passes and cut them open - playing long balls against Everton would have been playing into their hands.

I watched the whole match with a very keen eye on Perri. There were some reassuring moments from him.

However at least 4 times he either kicked the ball straight into touch. Or miscued and blasted a low bobbling ball across midfield. (Both invites unnecessary pressure).

He is quite obviously a bit of a bag of nerves at the minute. He also risked delaying on the ball until he was charged down several times.

It’s beyond me how a professional goal keeper can have this type of stage fright.

But i hope he continues to level out.

In 5 games time, we’ll know if we’re in the loan market looking for his replacement. Or if he’s mellowed out into his role for the long haul.

Bringing Nmecha in affords Farke the opportunity to go long more often, the big man’s best contribution yesterday was banging about under high balls and annoying their centre backs. Certainly wasn’t his accurate passing into the channels.

Piroe didn’t ever give us that option.

Played well in the Newcastle game, the only flaw in his game which requires attention is his kicking, this is one for goalkeeper coach to address but its not the end of the world. We now have a solid pairing of Perri and Darlow.
