Credit to Farke though, we were much better when Tanaka came on for Rodon, immense in the second-half.

I thought that moving to a back 4 after the Rodon injury actually helped us tactically today. We brought on Tanaka, which allowed Aaronson more freedom of movement. And a more attacking role. He popped up on the right wing to assist DCL's goal.

Agree, we took command after reverting to a back four but I was also happy with the three as well.

Because we were a goal down I thought Sunderland would have dropped deeper in a low block and our longer more direct passing been less effective, had we stayed with three.
With four we kept possession higher up the pitch, similar to last season, and got amongst them with more purpose because although deeper, they didn’t stifle us with a low block, they are a better team this season and maybe felt they didn’t need to do that?

The mix of systems is definitely benefitting Aaronson, the games are more stretched which suits his play.
When he comes up against a low block and there is less movement in front of him, that’s when he dawdles on the ball and gets caught. With the three CB’s there is more space for him as the opposition seem to want to press us more and leave gaps, imo.

I agree with your comment. But shifting the focus a bit from Aaronson, I think the new tactical flexibility has helped the team immensely. Other teams have given us problems in the past because they successfully made changes during the match. And we didn't. So I hope that Farke will stick with it. I think the 3-5-2/5-3-2 is a great starting shape. But we need to make in-game adjustments. And lately we have. And it's working!!

Rumour is Bornaauw is going back to the Bundesliga on loan. Could be good to get him some minutes. He is a talented footballer - could well have a role down the line.

Would leave us with 3 CB's which is kinda stupid when we start 3. Amps is makeshift but he's not a true CB and we need him in midfield.
