She has been in pain for years, wears constant morphine patches 24/7.... Well last week the pain was getting even worse, to the point on thursday when I called an ambulance for her..
We got to A&E about 7pm and sat on hard uncomfortable seats until about 2am friday when a doctor finally decided it was her turn... Promptly sent her for a CT scan...... by 8am friday she was in the operating theatre having surgery for a blocked and perforated bowl.

As for me... 12 months since my heart attack and 7 stents inserted.... still alive....
All the best to you both! 7 stents??? 😮

Thanks 👍 Nice of you to say so…

Listen: I have nothing against you. I am sorry that you think that I am attacking you for no reason. You posted polls I thought were crap and I said so. I still think they’re crap! I have nothing against you as a person: I don’t know you…

Credit to the reception team, they got us into triage straight away due to the state of him but the triage nurse looked at him, poked his legs (which were completely numb) and said to him "well you've walked in so you can walk out". She then got him a wheelchair, plonked him in it where he sat for 7 hours by which time he had lost all feeling in his feet and lastly his toes. Her actions could have meant he might never have walked again. As it was, it took him weeks with a frame and then a stick to be able to walk again.
That's all very unfortunate whiteswan. That they actually said that to your husband is dumfounding. I have never had a problem with the reception team. I'm usually in to the triage assessment within the first half hour. That is when the problem starts. I've experienced similar to you with the triage folk.

Luckily for both of you they found the issue and you are both on the road to recovery. Good luck.

Wishing Mrs H a speedy recovery Hector. Thankfully she had the required surgery in time.

Update......
I collected Mrs H on friday morning, and brought her home. Seems that whilst in hospital she got HAP Hospital Aquired Pneumonia, so she is now on antibionics for a week to try and shift it..... The surgeon also said that if I hadn't taken her in when I did, that her bowel would have gone "pop".

She thanks all of you for your well wishes...

I'm avin treatment on my right eye for macular degeneration. Too much fluid build up causes blurred vision, so round two of a steroid injection into the mince pie in two weeks. With eyelid speculum preventing one from blinking the mincer one just feels a pop as the needle breaks through the white. One can see the drug swirling around then a strange vision appears, one of the planet Mars big and bold for a few seconds followed by a white mist for six hours.

Sounds scary, but fear not, one experiences no pain nor discomfort during the procedure and it takes no more than 5 mins leaving one with only a black dot in ones vision and a blood shot eye that quickly fades in time for the Croatia fixture. 😉

Sorry to hear about you and the Mrs having such serious health issues Hector.

It's brilliant that you took decisive action to get er indoors to hospital, but that wait at the hospital is ridiculous and could have put her life at risk by the sound of it. I hope the both of you get the very best of treatment and get well asap.

That's awful Swannie, if these health "professionals" don't wanna do their jobs then they should be hoofed and get someone in who actually cares about people.

Going back 16 years I had my first really terrible acid reflux attack, I didn't know what it was at the time, and was up all night in pain, vomiting and choking. I really thought I was about to die that night. As a result of that heaving I broke all the blood vessels in my eyes. Went to the hospital the following morning and met a Sister at A&E who asked me in really snotty way "So what brings you here?"
I told her the craic and said "Have a look at my eyes". And she replied "Well, you've got conjuctivitis!"

I was fkn fuming, and just walked out immediately and got an appointment to see my doctor, as I realized these guys at the hospital couldn't care less if you died in front of them.

I've waited a while to reply to this post heccy because it has feelings for me too. I've had to think my reply through. First of all I am so pleased that Mrs heccy is at home and recovering nicely and Thank goodness for your swift action.

Here goes....tears....my Mum was admitted to hospital (92 years old but happy and loving life)....we were expecting her home. BUT....she got Covid on the ward (staff not dressing in proper gear between Covid patients I know because I saw it with my own eyes :x ) ... and then she contracted HOSPITAL AQUIRED PNEUMONIA.....she never came home :verysad: ......I lost her. The hospital I won't mention but I blame it for its reckless care for the elderly. By the way, the hospital is supposedly to care for the elderly in West Yorkshire. Utter rubbish.
Tough post that for me.... How can patients get friggin Pneumonia in the place that they are supposed be well looked after :x

Hopefully Mrs heccy gets well soon

Do you have similar long waiting times at the hospitals in Bulgaria, james.

It's absolute chaotic here in the UK.

If you go to the national health service hospitals here you could wait a few hours. There are lots of private clinics here, so if it's something urgent then you can go to one of them, pay a minimal examination fee and be seen immediately.

When we lived in Canada at times we would wait for very long periods at the hospital emergency room to be seen. Depends on how busy the ER was.

It's everywhere Leon.

I generally wait two hours to see my doctor here. But I do see my doctor and not a nurse practitioner.

I think health service resources are poorly managed globally.

Thoughts with you Swannie.

My dad, also got pneumonia and Covid in hospital. The pneumonia was mentioned on his death certificate.

Care of the elderly is complete shambles. My friends 92 yo mother fractured her hip on Thursday. She’s been starved on each of 3 days since, having her op postponed each time.
On 2 separate occasions my friend has had to call a nurse from her computer desk to change wet sheets, because she is totally immobile as her hip is unstable.
And this is for a woman who herself spent 40 years nursing. The sad thing is, this will kill her.

Sad to hear OB.

My mum was in nursing for 50 years of her life (Sister & midwife), the time of proper nurses & healthcare.

She'd be turning in her grave with what goes on within the NHS nowadays.
