Re-sale value? So another Bournemouth and Brighton who have no ambition other than selling all their players? No thank you. Also no guarantee you make a big profit, as Rutter showed. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2026 6:15 pm I'd like them both but I'd prefer the young prodigy we could double or triple our money on. I'm just not sure how much further Brandt gets us up the table compared to Charles. There's no resale on Brandt and we have plenty of fading talent
Brandt would be our version of Xhaka.

Re: Shea Charles- Club won't submit more bids
Why the obsession with resale value? If we get someone, such as BRandt, who comes in and does a good job for us then that's great for us. We didn't sign Strachan, or Pablo for their resale values we brought them in to make us better and they repaid us far more than a transfer fee.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2026 6:15 pm I'd like them both but I'd prefer the young prodigy we could double or triple our money on. Whereas the flip side is buying the talented youngster, such as Rutter. No use for the team, team gets relegated. We end up selling Rutter for a proift but lost out on the premier league money by signing a promising youngster over maybe say a Danny Ings who could have made a short term impact, cost us £15m on a transfer fee with no resale but brought in £100m as he'd helped us stay up.
So for where we are it is balancing short and long term but BRandt is probably less of a risk than signing a youngster unproven at a top level - even if he is talented.

Would be an exceptional signing.
And Tarik is a good age.
That being said I wouldn't want us signing all players late 20s
But I doubt the owners care that much about resale value in 4,5 years time.
Established players in their prime ready to go will probably help us establish ourselves faster than younger players who may need 2,3 years to get ready.
The 49ers want to flip us soon enough we know that and to do that they need an Established Premier League club which is more likely with players in their prime.

Re: Shea Charles- Club won't submit more bids
We tried buying for the future the last time we came to the Prem in the second season and look where that got us!!! We need seasoned pro's. Free transfers on good bonus' and high wages is the best option for us until we are established. If we can strengthen while staying in budget this season and if we stay up (we will) we are going to be much better off in the years to come. Now is not the time to buy young promise. We can do that later...

Re: Shea Charles- Club won't submit more bids
Leeds are doing the right thing not even entertaining being in a bidding war.
If Southampton want to negotiate now with Fulham, so be it. We move on.
If we can get Brandt in the door, people will soon forget about Charles. However, Brandt may take all summer to decide his future, just like Calvert Lewin did last year.
If on the other hand, if Southampton are prepared to discuss the matter seriously, by all means bring Shea in. He has solid investment value. But draw a line in the sand on price and timing.

Should have already done this instead of being jerked around by Southampton! One or the other club is going to look pretty stupid at the end of this saga when it ends but at the moment both are in a ridiculous p*ssing match!malcolmw wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 2:16 am Leeds are doing the right thing not even entertaining being in a bidding war.

Maybe Southampton don't like us because we got away with Spygate (well almost).....but they have really been 'done' by it....and now their manager has been charged.

Re: Shea Charles- Club won't submit more bids
For me I don't think we look foolish. We put a bid in, Southampton decided to leak it etc. Likely we have lodged bids with other clubs but they have acted more professionally. As such we may be in the same situation with a few potential players but are waiting to see which club/players says yes first.PhoenixUnited wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 8:36 am Should have already done this instead of being jerked around by Southampton! Similarly I can understand Southampton acting the way they have. They have a saleable asset and are obviously trying to get the best price they can and hoping for a bidding war. For me they shouldn't though have gone running to the press but just got Shea's agent to privately approach clubs and drum up interest - after all it is also in the agent's interest to drive up the transfer fee as they will get a cut of it.

Not sure I agree.PhoenixUnited wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 8:36 am Should have already done this instead of being jerked around by Southampton! One or the other club is going to look pretty stupid at the end of this saga when it ends but at the moment both are in a ridiculous p*ssing match!
The only one looking stupid imo is Southampton. They have chaos at their club, a player who wants out and is in the final year of his contract.
Leeds clearly want the player and he is keen to come to LU. We put in 3 offers related to what we believe he is worth. They have declined these as they want more and so they wanted someone else in to get a bidding war going.
Once Fulham showed interest, Leeds said you have our offer take it or leave it.
So now all Fulham have to do is beat our bid by a few pounds - meaning Southampton wont get what they want anyway.
The player can simply say, I'll wait to end of the season and walk out as a free agent and the club get zero - ironically just the same as Fulham got for Wilson
Leeds saying take it or leave it at this point is actually a good move in my opinion.

"We're Leeds, we look up to him (Man City) but down to him (Southampton)" hence we let ourselves overpay for a player to one and won't pay for the other. Even thought they're of equal quality and the former is up to twice the price

Great that the club have drawn a line in the sand with the final bid. Shea is a good player but there has to be a limit set and Leeds will walk away, and quite rightly so. Southampton need the cash and we have it to spend, so if the Saints can do better good luck to them. This saga isn't over yet, if we get him thats fine, if we don't I expect the recruitment dept will have another target in there sights.

Too true,as I have said many times walk away plenty out there that can do the job better than Charles and the other thing is he played in a poor Southampton team last yr,in my mind championship player simple as .malcolmw wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 2:16 am Leeds are doing the right thing not even entertaining being in a bidding war.
