Re: Marcelo Bielsa
He's doing or done a press conference
Is or was live on YouTube but as its in Spanish I'm not watching
These are apparently the bullet points
MB accepts he failed as Uruguay manager, he didn't do enough with the players he had.
He also feels though that had he done things differently it wouldn't have changed anything.
Says they did their best, it wasn't good enough
He feels they disappointed the fans.
The players asked for reduced talks, he accepted that request
They did have player meetings and the players requested not to be split up. MB says they understood why he does it to reduce time but he understood their point and accepted it.
Their was no request from the players to change style vs Spain.
He relies on results based on how his relationship is with the players. He says the players didn't do anything that impacted him doing his job.
He is sorry for how he did and apologises
The day before the Spain game the goalie had a fever, it had gone by the day and hence he played him

Re: Marcelo Bielsa
It continues to bewilder me why fellow Leeds fans continue to make excuses for Bielsa? On the other hand Marsch was hounded out of the club after only 20 games of a new season with a new squad having lost key players. Also giving us memorable wins away to Liverpool & at home to Chelsea, as well as more draws than actual losses
Marsch preserved Bielsa's legacy by keeping Leeds up with only 12 games remaining of the previous embarrassing season, otherwise Bielsa would've have no doubt taken us down. Marsch took over a team decimated by Bielsa with one of the worst goal differences in PL history.
In case anyone has conveniently forgotten. Marsch has taken minnows Canada to the semis of the Copa America & last 16 of the World Cup. Rising from 49 in the FIFA rankings to an all time high of 26. This is all within the last 2 years. As where Bielsa has done his usual quick start & even quicker failure with Uruguay in around the same time
No one is forgetting the job Bielsa did in transforming the club & style of play in 3 seasons. But it came at an extreme cost making Bielsa the highest paid employee in LUFC history. Time for Leeds fans to take off their rose tinted Bielsa glasses & start giving other Leeds managers like Marsch & now Farke the backing & support they deserve, which comes at a fraction of the cost of Bielsa's salary.
Any other Leeds manager overseeing the hammerings we took in Bielsa's last season, especially & continually against Man U. Would've been hung from the East Stand.
El loco or is El loser more in line with his managerial career?

I think you'll find the large majority of people on this forum have no illusions about what Bielsa did for this club.
Prior to Bielsa's arrival we had languished for nearly two decades in the lower divisions under a succession of eminently forgettable managers and pathetic ownership.
Bielsa changed all that. He gave us exciting football and led us to the promised land, and he did it by creating a team that was far greater than the sum of its parts. Being a Leeds fan (and I have been one for over fifty years) was never more fun than Bielsa's promotion year and first year in the EPL.
Yes, it all went sour from there, but we never would have been there but for Bielsa.
He won't ever stand alongside Revie or Wilkinson, but his first three years were among the best we have ever seen and made us all immensely proud to be Leeds fans once more.
I also think you'll find the large majority of members of this forum understand fully just what a remarkable job Farke has done. We love him.
Jesse.........well that's another story.
Again, welcome. Glad you're here.

Bielsa would have kept us up and indeed Marsch resorted to Bielsa tactics to do so, his playground football never worked for us. Difficult to know how good Canada are but they're not great.

Re: Marcelo Bielsa
In no way am I judging the job he did in 3 seasons at ER. It was mostly an enjoyable rollercoaster under his tenure. Saying that the Harlem Globetrotters are entertaining & they never won anything.
With Leeds making Bielsa one of the highest paid managers in world club football whilst managing a championship side. Then success should be a priority & almost a given don't you think? Albeit we did capitulate badly in his first season against Lampards Derby.
I just feel the likes of Marsch & Farke are not given the same love & patience that were bestowed on Bielsa by the ER faithful. Even though we suffered club record breaking defeats under his tenure & couldn't get past the first round in both cup competitions. Even Radrizzani admitted it was a mistake to sack Marsch, when you look at what Gracia & Allardyce then brought to the table
My opinion is that Bielsa is a very clever man & made millions from hardly winning anything meaningful, but gets let off because its deemed entertaining. Unfortunately I never bought into the "man of the people" logic. Just because he rented a one bedroom flat. Or because he slurped a latte regularly at Costa & shopped at Morrisons. . Or the fact he walked to Thorpe Arch from Wetherby & strangely hardly spoke a word of the queens in his near 4 seasons at ER. In my eyes a mercenary & you only have to read the legal outcome of his time at Lille to understand that.
I just hope Farke is still given the same love, patience & time if god forbid we happen to get hit by 5, 6 or 7 goals without response in the coming seasons .

Bielsa has made millions & a career from being supposedly entertaining.
But if like you say you're a sports team then I suppose he's pretty much failed on that front as well, in not winning a anything decent in his near 40 year club managerial career .

My one and only trip to Elland Road was the day we beat Huddersfield to go top of the Championship table. The feeling outside the ground afterward was indescribable. I have never experienced anything like it, and Bielsa gave us that. He will always have a special place among the faithful for it.class55123 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 2:10 pm Bielsa has made millions & a career from being supposedly entertaining.

As an Anerican, nobody wanted Jesse to succeed more than I, and he did a creditable job of keeping us up when it looked for all the world like we were headed for relegation. The decision to let him go, however, was the proper one. He's done a very good job with the Canadian team, and he deserves credit for that, but his time at Leeds was not a success.
Farke is brilliant. He built a team to dominate the Championship but also understood quite clearly the sorts of changes he would have to make to survivie in the Premier League. He re-tooled the roster and changed tactics, and when those tactics didn't work he changed again and hit on a style of play the saw us stay up comfortably. Very much looking forward to what he does for us this year.

I loved Bielsa, still do. It was art, the like of which we'd never seen. I'd happily forego 5 years of not winning the premiership for another 5 years of Biesa at his best... And to be fair it's unlikely anyone wins us the title in the next 5 years anyway, or the Champions league which is why microsoft's post is largely irrelevant at bestJohn in Louisiana wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2026 2:51 pm My one and only trip to Elland Road was the day we beat Huddersfield to go top of the Championship table. Like you I only saw Leeds once under Bielsa in the Championship. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised by the tempo, quality & fitness of the team. Albeit there was little end product in terms of hitting the net.
Its all about opinions & personally it seems to me Bielsa is & still treated like a Messiah at ER which I find mystifying. Solely on the back of one promotion & probably one relegation had he not got sacked. As well as breaking the PL record for most goals conceded & picking up £8m a season for his efforts.
Great work if you can get it! I bet Farke is on less than half of that even today

Based on what you've said in just this one post you cannot ever claim to be a Leeds fan, here's a hint 16 years
