A club in our position would be mad to turn down a player of his level if it could be done in my humble view (won't happen regardless).

Leeds will not accomodate a player with excessive wage demands - no matter how good - and rightly so imo.
Its not just about the upfront fee.

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
From all accounts this Igor Paixao guy seems like a really talented player and would be a real weapon for us on our left wing.
But we spent all last summer chasing after him, when it just seemed like the player and his agent were using us to facilitate the move he really wanted for himself and his family to Marseille, which worked a treat for him, but left us standing at the garden gate again.
Once bitten, twice shy, but not in the case of Leeds United.
Seems like we're still chasing after him again for all of this summer and getting nowhere fast. From what I've gathered he and his family are well settled at his current club and the coach sees him as a key player. Marseille would appear to be a really badly managed club as they are in a position where their debt means they need to sell players pronto.
But, is it really worth spending all this time and effort focusing on a guy that's already jacked us off and seems to have zero genuine interest in coming to ER? Feels like we're hanging around like some jilted John pining for an ex-girlfirend who couldn't give a toss about us. Bearing in mind that Julien Brandt just led us up the garden path for a long period this summer.
I really feel that with the way business is conducted these days and they way modern footballers approach transfers we would be better advised to spend our time and effort elsewhere, and I hope this is the case not to end up in panic mode at the end of the transfer window, as we did numerous x with Radz, Orta and Kinnear.

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
It depends how ambitious the club is.
Farke clearly indicated in that presser at the end of last season that he wants the club to progress quickly, and emphasized that he won't be hanging around if the club sees EPL survival as it's objective.
If we're looking to progress then that means recruiting better quality players to improve the quality of the squad. To recruit better quality players means paying higher wages and higher transfer fees, unless we can snap up top quality free agents who will still demand high wages e.g. DCL and Wilson.
If we're aiming for the top half/top 6, and Europe then we ain't gonna be doing that on the cheap, even the well ran clubs like Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth are paying out big fees and wages now to recruit quality, but flipping those players to bigger and richer clubs to generate profits.
I believe we can get back to the top of the football pyramid, it just depends how quickly we want to get there. There is just as much risk involved in playing it safe and sticking with Longstaff, Gruev, Aaronson and James as there is with pushing the boat out for top quality players who can generate wins on a weekly basis.

Main French journo close to Marseille simply states that Pieface isn't leaving, according to Joe Blackburn this morning.

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
Why does everyone seem in such a hurry to get European qualification? You do not progress like that nowadays! Progression this season is 12th-8th IMO. I don't like to rush things and we need to learn from the mistakes of the past (we have) but let's be patient. We do not have the spending power of even teams like Forest (who we are better than) so progression has to be strategically planned. Slow and steady improves the stewpot...
We have improved on last seasons squad plus Aaronson/Longstaff/Gnonto have all stepped up a rung!
We don't need this Paixao bloke. Sick of chasing prima-donna's who think we are beneath them. At first I wasn't convinced Okafor wanted to be here but I could now be wrong. Time to move on...

Have never felt like a transfer season was fully complete without their signature.

If you'd read the full thread (from where I read it 2 hours ago), it says AI generated and any deal will not be final until after any medical is completed and likely to be on Monday...YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2026 2:59 pm Florian Plettenberg gone 'deal done' on Nico Elvedi

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
Will be disappointed to see Seb leave but if he is unhappy, so it goes. Elvedi will make an excellent acquisition and replacement though and I think the club have done well.
Still nervous about a GK#2 and hope that's the clubs priority now. Would also love to see a backup LB and DCL type backup too.

Still amazed Elvedi wants to come to play cup games and the odd 5 minutes off the bench

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
Good signing for us. Now means we have a player who presumably starts on the bench but means if anyone of our defenders isn't up to scratch this guy can step straight in and do a very good job. No ones place is safe, and that's the way it should be.
Another good addition to our squad
