I think Bijol's place is most under threat. Elvedi will be best deployed alongside Rodon and Tarik. It is 4 into 3 positions so though I expect whoever is 4th choice will still see plenty of game time due to injuries, suspensions etc.Victor_OTT_17 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 1:10 pm Rodon is not being trained as a RWB/Winger!!! He’s our only pacey CB for starters.
So I’m not sure I understand where Elvedi fitsDoes it mean Bijol/Rodon is dropped down to #4 of a 3? I’m not sure I like how this is panning out…

BBC reporting done deal and medical tomorrow. Expected to be a formality. A very good signing for a very good player. Definitely a starter for the next 3 years... https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/arti ... lqqr15p2yo

Who get's moved to the bench so he can start? I think he will create greater competition for spots, but I'm not sure he's a starter right now.Victor_OTT_17 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 5:37 pm BBC reporting done deal and medical tomorrow. I don't think he is coming here to sit on the bench. Bijol or Rodon best stay on top of their game...BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 10:22 pm Who get's moved to the bench so he can start? I think he will create greater competition for spots, but I'm not sure he's a starter right now.

Well, we can agree on that. I think it will be a three way competition for two places.Victor_OTT_17 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 10:52 pm I don't think he is coming here to sit on the bench. Bijol or Rodon best stay on top of their game...

Yes I agree. I think that's Farke's intention - to have real competition in more positions this season (not just 'back-up's').BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 11:16 pm Well, we can agree on that. I think it will be a three way competition for two places.
Elvedi has played right across the backline. He is predominantly in the right, but has played centre and left as well. Having played well over 300 Bundesliga games, he is clearly very versatile.
He is also a natural leader and is their captain (and was when Farke was their coach). So we are building a stronger leadership group now - Ampadu, Rodon, Bijol and, likely Elvedi (maybe DCL?)
As much as I wanted Seb to stay, he will be a step up in quality. Its a smart piece of business - the fee is a bit more than we are getting from Hull for Joffy.

I agree. And he is probably in the stage of his career where he can see, or maybe accept, a more rotational role. Not necessarily a starter. But that's what the competition is for.malcolmw wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 12:11 am Yes I agree. I'm never sure it is... especially in defence which needs to be settled, injuries asisde, you want the same one to start all season...

Point taken, but three people covering two spots can work quite well and, when you think about it, really has to as you can't expect to go through an entire season without injuries. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 11:01 am I'm never sure it is... especially in defence which needs to be settled, injuries asisde, you want the same one to start all season...

4 covering 3 if we continue to play 5 at the back. I see it being Tarik LCB, Elvedi CB, Rodon RCB. If Rodon or Tarik get injured then likely Elvedi takes their position and Bijol goes central. If Elvedi gets injured, BIjol goes central.John in Louisiana wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 1:07 pm Point taken, but three people covering two spots can work quite well and, when you think about it, really has to as you can't expect to go through an entire season without injuries.

Bijol ain't gonna be happy as I think he will be the one to miss out. You don't buy a player like Elvedi and bench him...

I think the winner here will be be Joe Rodon. Now he won’t need to have his head stapled back on before he plays a game. I’m absolutely astonished how many knocks he gets then plays on.

Seems a cracking player and always good to have strength in depth. That's what you need to stay in the PL and progress of course, so looks great in terms of ambition. If he helps to keep more clean sheets and gives it his all, money well spent. I know we'll all make him feel very welcome at ER if he puts a good tackle in!

I am looking forward to the Born comparisons when he has played a few games.FeelsLikeThunder wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 1:27 pm Seems a cracking player and always good to have strength in depth.
