Bijol is a bit of a clumsy slow mover for me. Great in the box, a liabiltiy out of it because once beaten he's done. Watching him try to get back v Manure after a very poor tackle was painful to watch. He's a sweeper basically

Lacks pace but as a 1v1 battling the striker type he's immense. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 11:11 am Bijol is a bit of a clumsy slow mover for me. Someone like DCL would struggle vs Bijol imo for example
Whereas I think he'd be happier with Rodon and Elvedi

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
The trouble there though is that not many other teams really play with a DCL type so that limits the matches where Bijol would be considered as the best option to deal with the opposition striker. Used to be easy 2 centrebacks marking 2 strikers, none of this I play left of centre, you play right it would be I'm tall so I will mark their big guy, you're quick so you makr the nimble little striker.
Don't forget that last season Bijol didn't come into the side for a few weeks, he then came in and looked poor in a back 4. So it wasn't like we bought him to play the formation as it was then so he was probably more of a stats driven signing than neccesarily someone Farke saw fitting into his line-up. Elvedi would however likely be different in that Farke has managed him before so presumbaly whilst the stats guys probably liked what they saw it would have been Farke pushing to get him.
I think Elvedi is the central of the 3. Tarik on the left and Joe on the right. Bijol then covers and I would imagine he would still get plenty of matches accross the season as he is covering 3 places (similar to how James Justin made 21 league starts despite not being seen as a first team starter if everyone was available). Last season Rodon didn't start 5 matches and it was the same with Struijk. Tarik made 31 starts at Sassulo. So straightaway that is a potential 17 matches where Bijol, if he were the 4th choice centreback, could start (and Bijol only actually started 21 matches last season).

It would be really unfair on Bijol to be dropped and I think he'd get very unhappy very quickly.
Elvedi is more of a Farke type though so may be right
But imo it would be the wrong choice.
We would be picking a defender because he's better at keeping the ball which I'm never keen on.

I'm sure Elvedi is a decent defender as well. I think he and Tarik made the most clearances at the world cup. That shows they have good anticipation skills and read the play well. I think in a 5 man defence you can also get away with one defender being more of a deep lying playmaker. Rodon and Tarik look to be good at tackling, heading away etc. So really the back 3, in terms of centrebacks, is almost like a normal back 2 and a sweeper/dm in a similar way to how KP was under Bielsa. The 3rd player is a defender when needed but also a bit like a quarterback to direct and dictate play.

Defenders defend.
We need to stop this budget Barcelona mentality.
Pick the best defenders to defend
That's Bijol imo.
If it's a choice its Rodon or Elvedi

Elvedi is not in Rodon's class. You can't teach that pace, his recovery speed is just astonishing.

Going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out. and lets not forget Justin is a rather good CB too. This probably cuts short Cresswell's career path for a while too. I was very impressed with him in the pre season.

I like Bijol who won't be dropped as Farke will play a back three of Elvedi - Bijol - Muharemovic, probably our best starting back three in a very long time.
Rodon is being coached to be a wing-back & doing very well when he plays in that position.
I can see Joe playing as DM alongside Ampadu in the future too!

But I read up on our new signings.
Watch highlights, read fan opinions of his current club, scout reports, data profile.
Sounds time consuming but actually quite quick
Not easy to make these opening posts you know!!!! Ai helped with that one admittedly I did my research after.

The conditions behind Piroe's loan and obligation to buy might be linked to number of apperances.
I use the word might, not saying it's true.

Farke seems to be an expert of fitting Square pegs in round holes... it started with Archie Gray and know it is continuing with Gnonto, James and Roden.1964white wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 12:57 pm You speak about Elvedi as if you've seen him play many times.

it is something of a novelty to see Joe bomb forward, because the first thought is what is he doing so far out of position. But if you think back Firpo was given the same licence to roam and to good effect.
It must be unsettling for the opposition to see players playing in unaccustomed roles, and I don't think Farke gets much credit for this adventurism, instead the crime of ploddyball is laid at his door.

All this can't be true, as Farke is a limited, poor, predictable coach apparently.Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 1:12 pm Farke seems to be an expert of fitting Square pegs in round holes... it started with Archie Gray and know it is continuing with Gnonto, James and Roden.

Elvedi adds quality depth to the team. He saw this transfer as an opportunity to earn more, and play in the prem. Those are the key selling points for a player in his late 20’s IMO.
How good is he in the prem no one knows as he hasn’t played here before. You are also merely speculating about defender rankings.
For me the key advantage is the ability to suffer inevitable injuries and to rest players carrying a knock without too much of a dip defensively.
Rodon is a shoe- in starter for me on the right.

We really don't know enough about potential signings until we see them play in the flesh for Leeds.

Re: Summer transfer gossip and squad discussion
Rodon will not become a wingback and is certainly not being coached to play as a wingback. He is being coached to be a centreback who can be the spare man if we continue to play 5 at the back. We have a bit of a lopsided formation given that Okafor is predominantly hugging the left and Wilson or Aaronsen will drift into centre. As such Rodon is encouraged to join in down the right, but not with the plan of him being a right back.1964white wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 12:57 pm You speak about Elvedi as if you've seen him play many times.

Back 3 will start as Rodon, Bijol and Tarik, likely Elvedi plays in the cup match and then at some point replaces Bijol.
