Haven't posted in a while, but saw this just now on twitter and my blood boiled.

Bates on Vayrynen: "I don't know why we signed him. A nice guy but a complete waste of money. He has made two starts and cost us £500, 000."

Does he think we're thick? Does he not remember Shaun Harvey going ON RECORD with the YEP crowing about how we were ahead of the curve getting quality players in on frees? You pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Bates/Harvey have to shoulder the blame as well as Grayson as they sanctioned Mika's signing along with all the other no hopers

They also had the adacity to kid the Leeds fans "we are only interested in signing the right players for the club & players that are better than those that are already at the club" what a load of old tosh

Wasted money on very poor players. CLUELESS !

A significant proportion of the £500,000 was probably a signing-on fee and an agent's fee.

I think Bates needs to look at the scouting cos hardly think it would have been a name on SG's radar. Rather a case of the scouts saying to Bates - we got this guy that's available for free who is an international ala Sorsa, DaCosta etc.

You do make me laugh.

Good to see that we pay very good wages mindst so we know that's not the reason we can't sign decent players.

Bates: "It was disappointing that Mika couldn't make an impact in to the Leeds team this season. Obviously when one manager brings in a player, and another manager takes over, it can be hard for that player to impact on the team. We need to improve our scouting techniques to insure that potential players will fit in to the set up and not waste their own, or Leeds', time. We wish Mika every success with his future career."

The reason we can't sign decent players is that Williams and Harvey wouldn't know a decent player if he'd scored a hat trick in the C.L. Final.

I just find the whole thing childish and unnecessary. Why slag off a player who is leaving? Is Bates deliberately trying to kill any chance of Mika getting another berth in English football? Something like this could affect his whole career, it's not like we really gave him a chance to fit in. He wasn't right for us, and that's all that needs to be said. Bloody nasty old sod!

I don't think he has slagged off Mika?? He said he was a nice guy and a waste of money (not because he is crap but because he wasn't played) Unless there was more to it than that??
