British and Irish Lions 2013

Ok, fair few Ozzies on the forum and with just over a week to the tests I think it is time to get the banter going?? I still find the concept of the Lions a worthwhile exercise, with the challenge of putting 23 players from different countries together over such a short period of time, to play one of the top teams in the world, makes it a great sporting event.
I think the Lions will win 3 zip, just for the fact that the ozzies are missing some amazing players and the Lions able to call upon players of the class of Zebo and Grant when we get injuries!

The Lions have been in great form so far but have only really played one quality who they've beaten. Growing up in SA it was brilliant when the Lions came a-touring and I've been looking forward to the tests down under on this tour. Wanted to go to the Sydney match but it was sold out in a couple of hours and I missed out.

It should be a good game, the Aussie teams have been playing well in the Super 15 tournament so are in form.

Our good friend Revie-era is over there now to take in 4 games one of them v Waratahs in Sydney on 15th June. In addition also off to see two NRL games at Manley & Sydney Roosters

I went to the Reds vs Lions game last week and our Reds gave a decent showing imo. I still think the Lions will give the Wallabies a touch up though.

I really think the Lions are going to destroy Australia, the more and more I think about the more I hope it happens, arrogant team the Wallabies, jokingly couldnt name the Irish team at the last world cup before we beat them up and in fairness there are possible 12 nations who play the sport to a decent level.

you only play rugby union in australia if you werent good enough to play rugby league or if your toff daddy made you...

i'd say it is mostly ex-pats that have bought tickets because i dont know a single person who's going or even cares for that matter

Im glad you can speak for 25 million people. Rugby Union is probably only the main sport in one country in the world. I am sure there are a few ozzies who can muster up a wee bit of pride and shout their country on. Obviously any talented rugby player is going to play league, its a game with more flair and skill

if you have a look mate, rugby union in this country is below racing, golf, motorsport, and its certainly behind soccer, league, cricket, and AFL.... both in terms of attendance and participation..

I know that Union is the main sport in Ireland, but the reality is, the most talented young boys and girls in Australia DO NOT play rugby union and it skews the whole thing...

The fact that we ever won a World Cup is a miracle imo... and the above is the main reason there are so many islander boys that play for the wallabies atm..

Sadly it is far from the main sport in ireland, some way behing Hurling, GAA and soccer, I am sure there are not more people playing golf in Oz then there are Union, also per capita I would think Ireland would have more people playing golf, with horse racing also being big here. Union is a minority sport in most places, but I still think there are a few people interested in this tour and the sport

yeah i guess there wouldnt be more people actually playing golf... i just remember reading something about the most popular sports.

I'm sure in the big multicultural cities with lots of well-educated rugby types there probably is some excitement brewing, but where i'm from, in regional QLD, i can honestly say i do not know a single person that cares at all.

for me the whole 'Lions' thing is stupid anyway.... it's like us joining forces with NZ and playing a match.... no way

I tend to agree with you buddy, Im not a big fan, would rather be watching Ireland play Oz, nothing against the other countries or anything Union seems to be a snobby sport over there alright which is a shame, its the same over here to a lesser extent, but they let some of us normal folk give it a bash, Ive said many times Id love to give leauge a blast, nearly started a few weeks ago for the summer, but injuries and having a young family put a stop to that
