Maybe I'm in the minority here, but if he can rally the players as well as Redders has and get us into the play-offs this season, I wouldn't care what formation or style of football he gets the team to play.

I've also read that he's been playing a narrow 4-4-2 this season and trying to push for a quicker, short passing style.

I can't imagine Cellino has opted for a manager who will want to change the style away from the one that Massimo himself has said he wants us to play...

That, and if he tries to change the style of play back im sure Cellino will let him know..

Phil Hay or one of the other journos on twitter suggested that MC's preferred formation is 4-2-3-1, which is what Donnie had been playing at Sturm Graz recently instead of a 4-4-2 since he lost (injured? sold?) one of his main strikers.

Just hope he has doesn't have an ego that will lead to huge change overnight. A little stability in the starting 11/match day squad and in style of play would be sensible surely.

I can't see this appointment being any better than Hockaday if I'm being honest. He's coming completely from left field, with no knowledge of the league or the club. It all seems like another coach on the cheap. For what it's worth I think he is right not to hand the reins over to Redders permanently as he is invaluable but I would rather he did that than make this appointment. Disappointed to say the least.

If we're intelligent fans then this is a worrying period...we had the car running smoothly and now we're stripping down the engine again...It's not a given we continue this form with this manager irrespective of the quality we have in the squad..I'm going to be holding my breath

Whatever - Cellino will dictate the play, Darko may take us either way... and there's allus good old Redders to save us AGAIN, if Darko fails! Win-win???

Car analogy is good but I prefer the more metaphysical synopsis from the movie Donnie Darko

PU = Primary Universe (The Universe we exist in now under Neil Redfern)
TU = Tangent Universe (The parallel Universe that exists for Donnie Darko)
PoTT = Philosophy of Time Travel

Tangent Universe

The PoTT states that time is usually a stable construct but every now and then the fourth dimension gets corrupted. When this happens it creates a TU which is highly unstable and will only last a few weeks before it collapses in upon itself. There is a danger that when the TU collapses it could cause a black hole capable of destroying the PU as well.

Oh no we are going to hell in a handbasket if the Donnie Darko Tangent Universe does not resolve itself in 28 days.

This is what happens in the movie, there is a corruption in time and at midnight on October 2nd a TU is created. The next 28 days are now set in this alternate reality. Shortly after the TU starts Frank wakes Donnie up and lures him out of the house. A few minutes later a huge jet engine (the artifact) falls through the rip in time and lands in Donnie's bedroom.

The artifact is the big boat from Miami with unpaid tax which through a chaotic spiral of events involving Mr Harvey (another large rabbit) drags Leeds United into a black hole of oblivion.

It is important to remember that the TU is NOT created by the jet engine or Frank waking up Donnie. We are already within the TU when both those events occur. Unfortunately we never find out what caused the TU to begin, it's just an unexplained phenomenon.

As is the workings of the mind of Mr Cellino.

Very deep Rab, but I agree with both faaip and yourself in your concerns.

My worries are amplified by the fact he doesn't speak English - if he needs to alter tactics during a game, how many players will understand him?

Some pretty weird similarities there!

As with everything this season, I'm in my optimistic hat. I know it could go either way, and I'm unaware of the levels in the leagues he's previously managed in. It's probably unrealistic to expect a promotion push this season, but I also don't feel that we're poor enough to go down.

And as Meeta/Twigs say, if things aren't going smoothly Cellino will wield the axe again

I think Redders will have something to say about that! Cellino has already said that it's important for Redders to be linked closely with the new coach (which makes sense, as Darko is unlikely to know much about any of our players). I doubt we'll see too much tinkering to the formula which has been so successful recently.

I think all of us are concerned that Darko will rock the boat Redders had so well to steady over the last three weeks or so.

Howver, as Genghers rightly says, we have to hope that Cellino will drum into him that there is absolutely no need to tinker with team and formation at the moment and Redders is bound to be working very closely to him, initially at least, in order that the handover of reins is seamless as possible.

Milanic would be very stupid to mess with a team that is firing on all cylinders right now.

The fact that he doesn't speak English is not a fact, GW! He speaks five languages fairly fluently, English being one of the five! Let's hope Italian is one of the others.

I'd like to see the others he speaks - presumably German and Slovenian, but I wouldn't be surprised if Italian's in there considering the geography.

If he's got French or Portugese too, that would be the majority of our squad covered in terms of languages!
