Well done mate.....always fear for the cyclists what with all the potholes on the roads thesedays. Good luck on future ventures & with your weight loss of course :tup I'll stick to my bowlsgessa wrote:Well after 2 nasty accidents a few years ago, I have been an infrequent participant on my MTB, sticking to mainly "fire tracks" at the local forest, when I did decide to go out, after piling on a few pounds I decided recently to get back on my bike ,so on the 8th Sept I did, doing 16-20 miles every 2/3 days as I find the time, sticking to easy tracks to get fitter, after the accidents I lost my bottle on the technical stuff, well yesterday I decided to have a little go at something a little more challenging and did this section of a local technical track which is 6 miles long, I did about a mile of it, then continued on my usual route, which is having the desired effect, losing 8lb in a little under 3 weeks, another stone to go.
Here's the route.
Thanks Leon, I do avoid the roads as much as poss, but have to ride about 1.5 miles to get to where the tracks are, fortunately they're pretty quiet.1964white wrote:

Surely all roads are 'rural' in the wilderness?1964white wrote: The rural roads are in a dreadful state in our area

Chuffing heck mate! Them trees are bloody scarily close at that speed!gessa wrote:Well after 2 nasty accidents a few years ago, I have been an infrequent participant on my MTB, sticking to mainly "fire tracks" at the local forest, when I did decide to go out, after piling on a few pounds I decided recently to get back on my bike ,so on the 8th Sept I did, doing 16-20 miles every 2/3 days as I find the time, sticking to easy tracks to get fitter, after the accidents I lost my bottle on the technical stuff, well yesterday I decided to have a little go at something a little more challenging and did this section of a local technical track which is 6 miles long, I did about a mile of it, then continued on my usual route, which is having the desired effect, losing 8lb in a little under 3 weeks, another stone to go.

That film doesn't quite show how close some of them are, perhaps around 6 inches wider than the handle bars. I came off that last u bend once, taking it too fast.It is fun, hopefully back out in the morning, got the buzz back, so I'll be doing it again and toward the end of my ride I can join the tail end of the course, so may just do that too, mind it's unbelievably busy at the weekends. Motorists scare the crap out of me, my mate does alot of road cycling and keeps trying to get me to go out with him but just don't fancy it, especially when 2 weekends ago when I stopped at an accident in a small village where a taxi driver cut the corner on a blind bend and hit a cyclist head on, he was not in a good condition.Twiggster wrote:

At least trees are predictable and don't swerve in front of you, onto the track.
TBH - I'd love to have a go at that track, Ges...looks like fun!

All those trees.....scary mate :scared:gessa wrote:Yessssss It's done, did put my foot down 3 times but I can live with that.
It's the rollers and slab that tighten the butt cheeks mate, you can't really see from that video how steep they are, hasten to add, I go nowhere as near as fast as he did,I'm more the fella they over took half way round.1964white wrote:

There is a bowls thread somewhere Cat, but I found this one which involves other sports, something for everyone!Muppet the Cat wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2026 5:26 pm Crikey, that's a thread that's been dug up from the grave.
You must have been posting your Bowls reports somewhere else in the last 12yrs.

A deliberate tactic to dazzle your opponents ?
