Worrying today we finished the game with Austin, Tonge & Murphy which was provened last season that this midfield trio clearly doesn't work !

Perhaps giving the youngsters a bit of a breather by not playing them the full 90 will help them over the long season and their long careers.

Dunno who Popey's colourman was today, but he was very critical of the starting midfield during the game. Especially Cook and Mowatt "they look burned out - they don't communicate"!1964white wrote:Worrying today we finished the game with Austin, Tonge & Murphy which was provened last season that this midfield trio clearly doesn't work !

Re: Brentford v Leeds - Team/Reports/Ratings
I think it is fair to say that this team will be very inconsistent this season due to the number of new signings, the language barrier, the change in style and the change in head coach. When you also throw in youth players you also have the additional factor of young players playing in a more physical competition and also playing a lot more games in a shorter period of time than they are used to.
We have seen the inconsistencies all season whether it be under Hockaday, Redfearn and now Milanic. For all the praise Redfearn got we were outplayed by Bolton, outplayed for an hour by Birmingham and played off the park in the first half v Bournemouth. Yes we got points and full credit for Redfearn for the second half improvements but we could easily have lost all the games bar Huddersfield who really were a poor side.
We have signed some good players, we do look like we have potential but patience is key and we need to stop feeling suicidal after a defeat or feeling like we will be champions after a win. From what I have seen of us and the rest of the teams in the league so far we could finish anywhere in this division. There are no stand out teams and no awful teams, Even Blackpool, a team assembled at the last minute with freebie signings, have shown they aren't a pushover.
Today might be a blessing in disguise as it shows Milanic the weaknesses of the squad and he now knows what he has to do. Whether he is the man(ager) to do it time will tell.

Re: Brentford v Leeds - Team/Reports/Ratings
but why ruin what we were doing?
with Brentford could win if was maintained by the previous set-up. I approve almost all choices of the president, but I do not understand this.
then maybe Milanic will prove to be a great manager and I'll take back what I said, but from the day I have always considered a risky choice
we Redfearn who knew the environment and with whom we were taking off and now he must start all over again losing points because obviously still Milanic must understand the team

Milanic only made two changes one which enforced with Byram coming in for the suspended Berardi & the unnecessary change Mowatt in for Sloth. I still believe Berardi is better defensively than young Samalessio89 wrote:but why ruin what we were doing?

We are always gonna lose football matches, important thing is to keep the losses to a bear minumum. We have two home matches coming up to hopefully put Saturday's defeat behind us !

Seems very funny as has been reported there was no sign of Redfern at the game wood have thought his input on this game would have invaluable. Also the omission of Sharpe who seems to be the only proven goalscorer on the books at the moment. The changes made also seemed strange when you need goals.

Sharp isn't a proven goal scorer at Leeds tho. Doukara and Antenucci are. Even Redders dropped Sharp to the bench. Heard rumours that Sharp has a bad attitude in training?eastyorkshirewhite wrote:Seems very funny as has been reported there was no sign of Redfern at the game wood have thought his input on this game would have invaluable. Also the omission of Sharpe who seems to be the only proven goalscorer on the books at the moment. The changes made also seemed strange when you need goals.
Whatever - he's done very little to impress during his game time here, since being signed.

I agree that it's strange Sharp was left out, especially as Morison made the bench... I understand what you mean by 'proven goalscorer' - he's been there and done it in this league. Yes Doukara and Antenucci have scored a few (and I'm sure they've got more in their locker, given their performances so far), but they've not proven themselves over full seasons in the Championship.eastyorkshirewhite wrote:Seems very funny as has been reported there was no sign of Redfern at the game wood have thought his input on this game would have invaluable. Also the omission of Sharpe who seems to be the only proven goalscorer on the books at the moment. The changes made also seemed strange when you need goals.
Milanic said that he didn't want to risk bringing on another striker with the midfield tiring, but if you're behind, you ought to be looking to score, not stop them scoring again!

Re: Brentford v Leeds - Team/Reports/Ratings
Bringing an extra striker on isn't always the answer when behind. My Sunday team lined up 5-3-2 today and we were outclassed for 30 minutes and 2-0 down and sinking. I brought off a striker and switched to 5-4-1 to try to get a grip in midfield and 10 minutes later it was 2-2. Unfortunately we lost 4-2.
It sounds like, and I didn't watch it or listen, we were outplayed and overrun against Brentford. The risk with bringing on an extra striker or not refreshing the midfield may well have been that we'd have conceded a few more goals. Also Milanic may have wanted to see how other options in midfield would do as we have a lot of players fighting for positions - and from what we have seen so far I think we'd all select Antenucci and Doukara as the starting 2 strikers for now.

YUP. They have shown scoring and reaction ability. Sharp hasn't. I was thrilled we'd signed him at the time. Hope he gets his chance to prove himself. But NOT at the cost of our current strikers.
I'm sure he will - long season ahead!

Up to yesterdays game Antenucci had only scored one goal the same as Sharp all I am saying is that Sharp is a more proven goal scorer in the English game if you play to his strength playing him out wide is no good to him.Twiggster wrote:

Antenucci has scored twice and had a shot tipped onto the post.
Not in any way dissing Sharp who is a capable scorer but Antenucci has the edge because of his link up play and strength on the ball - what is yet to be determined is how many goals Antenuccis and Doukara can get over the season, how many matches they will be able to play (don't forget Doukara has missed a few matches with injury already). Having 3 or more strikers capable of scoring doub;e figures is vital.
