Hell hath no fury like an Italian scorned

We have all been brought up on Godfather films... Brando with cotton wool in his mouth...
the horses head in the bed. We believe in the Italian stereotype, where to slight the boss
in any way, can result in you having a few health problems. From listening to the pronouncements
of Cellino I get the impression that this mafioso loyalty and or submission is just bubbling below
the surface.

Slight No1: when talking about ER he says "I feel like I am a guest in my own house"
Slight No2: when talking to the FL he says " I come to the party but they treat me as an unwanted guest"
Slight No3: When dealing with Warnock he says "I want all the players to live in Leeds. He stays in Liverpool"
Slight No4: Talking about Ross se says "He doesn't come to training in Italy so I sell him to Fulham"
Slight No5: Talking about Hockaday: "You can never tell about a watermelon until you crack it open"

The list could go on, but the general idea that I get is that he sees himself as the boss, and someone
who has to be respected. In actual fact he demands it, and will sack managers willy nilly if they don't
fall into line or fail him in any way. The same with players, if they give the merest hint that they are not
being loyal to him then they are gone. Even the PR man gets the chop when he goes ahead an changes the date
of a venue.

So we have to ask how does this method of management affect the staff and the players. Would you like it
if you always had to be on your toes and minding your P's&Q's at work... ever fearful that a wrong word or
gesture might mean that you head would be on the chopping block.

This style of management just breeds paranoia and uncertainty. No wonder players want to leave.

I'm shocked in this day and age at the thought of respecting your boss...

weird thing though I didn't last long on jobs where I had no respect for the boss..

Lets just say there are two types of Italian leadership.
The papal Sixtus leadership from Rome that demands submission and adherence to hierarchy.
And the Medici leadership from Florence who acts as a beneficent patron and encourages artistry to flourish.

I fear Cellino adheres to the former school of thought rather than the latter.

Further court case against Cellino coming up... This time to do with planning permission for the stadium he wanted to build for Cagliari. Cellino named with 10 others and has 20 days to submit his defence.

Sure. The Football League should have blocked him if it was that clear! GFH sold to whoever gave them the best deal - they didn't care less about the club's future - but surely this whole fit and proper nonsense is meant to be carried out before takeovers in order to stop this sort of thing being an issue.

The fact that they've only just decided upon his ban will have further negative effects on the club... That's not a defence of Cellino, a crim's a crim, but surely if he were so clearly un-fit, then he should have been stopped before it got to this point (of ownership).

They can't ban someone until they are found guilty of an offence which excludes them from being a fit and proper person. And after a particular period of time certain offences become spent - hence Cellino's tax fraud offence - being spent in April and him being allowed to be a director etc from then on.

My point was that if 'we knew what we were getting into', as Martyn said, then surely the FL should have also known what we were getting into and pre-emptively banned him? I know it's not how the system works, but surely they should look at their criminal past as well as current!

It might be a good idea in theory but I doubt it would stand a chance legally

In any event the rules around fair and proper person test are not made by some sort of nebulous football league body or the football league board, they are made by the clubs voting on them through their representatives.

Thats just general management in any business let alone football

you dont want players/employee's slacking putting in half the effort or doing what they feel like. You have to mind what you say in any job out of fear of upsetting someone else who would then likely roll to HR and have you in shackles.

You should atleast show respect and loyalty to your employer, if youre not willing to give respect and loyalty to someone why should you expect to receive it back?

I still cannot get it out of my head....... what if Cellino's legal appeal to his conviction in Italy is granted? What position would that leave the corrupt Football League in, having banned an innocent man?

Oh I really hope so, how would they drag their corrupt arses out of that one????

“It is unacceptable and makes a mockery of the rules if Massimo Cellino has been banned, but the Football League accepts the argument that a trust of which he is a beneficiary can remain in control. If the league is happy with this it calls into question whether they are fit to run their competition, and whether we can have confidence in Shaun Harvey as the chief executive, who said when he was at Leeds that he did not know who the owners were.”
Certainly seems as if there is some pressure being aimed at Harvey and the rest of the incompetent football league. People have no rights to complain if the rules and punishments are clear and understood by all. The fact no one knows what is going on only insights more frustration and goes completely against the ethos of the rules in the first place. Whilst Cellino's tax evasion was dishonest and fraudulent, most could argue that the evasion, which was actioned before he was at the club, is less harmful to the club and league than the entanglement of the finances that Bates caused and which Harvey was a part of.
"Please understand that the theory that every Leeds discussion converges to a finite, but uninformed, debate on the Chairman is one we must all question and actively counter" - Stephen Hawkings
