Good point re: a number 10. Maybe Roberts/Bogusz can step into that hole. Klich did okay there, so if we play Forshaw/Shack in the middle, he might do a job.

Both Roofe and Bamford were on for about 25 if you extrapolate to ignore injuries. Think Roofe is more likely, but had Bamford buried a few chances he could have had about 20 anyway!

Every club needs a 25+ goal striker in this division as well, so it's going to be expensive to get (a proven) one.

Seen a lot of twitter chatter last night that we should be looking at Krystian Bielik, who has been released by Arsenal. I know nothing about the lad, so don't know whether we should be or not. Anybody? And by anybody, I mean Cjay, who seems to know every player in all 4 leagues!! ;-)

I like Roberts, had a few decent games last season but Tyler is another one who is injury-prone (no training or pre-season yet) plus he needs to score goals if he is our designated No.10. I doubt Bogusz is ready yet !

Did i read somewhere we were going to get our transfer business done early ?

Four injuries already is a major concern. I doubt Bamford will last five minutes too !

Lets hope we use some of that £20m well.

I'm more interested in us winning the championship than the U23 league
Same, trying not to get to concerned but i see some saying we have done "good business" but i dont see that i see short term business no long term plan.

Ben White is at present a downgrade on Jansson, maybe he will come good but if you asked 100 football fans 90% would say that. And if he was so good why did Brighton spend money on Matt Clarke from League 1 Portsmouth, why not just use White if and when?

Jack Harrison flattered to deceive a lot last season and a few decent pre season games dont mean he will turn into Harvey Barnes or Harry Wilson.

Jack Clarke I'm a fan but he was our player and now he isnt, in effect we have borrowed our player back.

All 3 may turn out to be brilliant but all 3 are loans, what happens next summer?

Costa is our only actual improvement, Clarke and Harrison were here last season and White is a kid who we hope can replace one of the best cbs in the league.

At present this is far to similar to last season imo.

We are still a cb short, we are still waiting for Saiz to be replaced and we are still relying on Roofe and Paddy to find a clincal touch and for injuries to be kind.

We have moved out a lot of players but so many more to go.

I suspect the money we have bought in wont be used, or at best a tiny portion, said that weeks ago.

Here is hoping for a few bits of good news on the signing front next week :)

Not quite mate  i do have to google.

But not Bielik i do know him.

Young Polish Cb and occasionally dm, tall lad, good on the ball.

Arsenal spent a decent chunk on him when he was just a kid, 17, 18, they got him for a couple of mil.

Was on loan at Birmingham under Zola, did well but Arry didn't seem to rate him.

Spent last season at Charlton and was immense, MOTM in the playoff final (i watched that game he really was good that day).

Arsenal fans seem to rate him, quite a few deeply annoyed that he is being let go but players like Elneny and Holding arent.

He would be a risk but one well worth taking, we signed Cooper and loaned White who had less pedigree so why not Bielik.

Cheers, Cjay! Sounds like he is someone we should be looking at, maybe Klich could have a word?

As things stand in terms of the first 11 it is one in (costa) and one out (pontus). I think Bielsa will stick with cooper and Berardi so white wont start. Costa definitely adds more than pontus takes away but we are still lacking first team players.

I would have thought Ajayi and Hugill would have been good options to have and could have been got for less than 5 million for the pair. Michael Morrison is another one that could have been got for free and is a good solid defender at this level.

First team Squad as it stands

GK - Casilla - Miazek
RB - Ayling - Beradi - Shackleton - Dallas - Hosannah
LB - Douglas - Alioski - Dallas - Davis - Oduor - Beradi
RCB - White - Beradi - Struijk
LCB - Cooper - Beradi - Casey
DMF - Phillips - Forshaw -
RSM - Costa - Hernandez - Clarke - Shackleton - Alioski - Stevens - Dallas
CMF - Klich - Forshaw - Gotts - Stevens
LSM - Harrison - Alioski - Costa - Clarke -
AMF - Hernandez - Costa - Bogusz - Roberts - Kun
STR - Roofe - Bamford - Edmondson - Mujica - Kun - Roberts

Think that's around a 25-29 man first team squad atm..

It might be a 25-29 man squad but a dozen of those are untried/tested at this level so the same question still stands from last season... Where is the strength/quality in depth that is definitely needed in this division ? Costa is the only real proven quality with experience in this league that has been brought in so far during the summer and we've lost an excellent CB. Pablo won't play every game so who will step in ? Clarke blows hot & cold, Harrison is the same old and the front 2 (for a whole season is laughable) need to improve their goals/shots ratio by a significant margin to even get close to promotion because the rest don't contribute enough. At the moment I can see a very similar outcome to last season as it appears lessons are still not being learnt.

Been thinking the same. Plenty of talk in the papers about a new keeper but I think we need to find another player with a bit of flair. As it stands we are about the same strength as last season, with still no replacement for Saiz.

Same goes for most squads. A healthy club will have a strong core, (we do) and youth coming through (we do)..if you have to buy everything you need and you're not getting the massive amounts of charity the PL throws out then you're going bust real quick. Pablo looks to be behind Costa right now and I've said for a while it's a number 10 we're missing..

We've sold an good defender who probably would have been a bench player for us this coming season, everything indicates that. I'm hoping for a CD and a quality #10 but I'm happy to go as we are if that doesn't happen. I support the club irrespective and am on the optimistic side most of the time.

Too optimistic IM. We do not have a strong core. Central defence is an issue. Cooper, Beradi are not good enough and the young lad from Brighton is untested. Coupled with a keeper who didn't have confidence with the defence last season is only going to make it worse.

IMO we need two centre halves and a creative midfielder in the Hernandez role. Up front we will be OK if they stay uninjured, but I think the squad is weaker than last season, and we didn't go up.

Because we still had Jansson then, Dan James may have given us that push back then but now i dont think its enough.

What really worries me is form is a habit, teams that end a season in poor form tend to start the next in poor form.

We ended last season in poor form and indeed werent good enough from January.

Basically i think the squad needed a larger overhaul at the end of last season, we havemt done that.

What Sara said

So much gloom on this thread because we haven't bought every player available. Like it or not, we don't have the funds to do that, nor do we have a coach who likes to make wholesale changes. I personally think we need a 10 and maybe a CH, but I'm reserving judgement until the window closes. What the club doesn't do under AR is shout our business from the rooftops, none of us know what is happening behind the scenes. Chill the f**k out, folks!

'Like' for Sara and Ges.

Perspective is important. I understand where frustrations lie, but I feel as though we are a team more than any time since L1. You need players who fit that bill and for whatever reason, Bielsa clearly felt Pontus wasn't that.

Bielsa gave us our best season I can remember for a long time and so I'm trusting his judgement on player/the squad.

We definitely fall into two camps on here at the moment and I feel like that is pervading through every thread. I'm always optimistic with Leeds at the moment... we're going in the right direction, which hasn't been true for around 8 or 9 years.
