Match Thread Brentford 5-2 Leeds Utd Match Thread - Good footage from the opposition.

Post by Ellandback1 »

Saturday 3rd September 15:00 | Gtech Community Stadium

Leeds go in search of their first away win of the season against Thomas Frank's Brentford on Saturday Afternoon, hoping to repeat the heroics of the final day of last season. The two sides last met 104 days previously, when a 94th minute Jack Harrison strike guaranteed the Whites top flight status against their nine men opposition.

The Bees have had a good start to their new campaign, picking up draws against Leicester City, Everton and Crystal Palace and walloping Manchester Utd 4-0. Their only defeat came at local neighbours Fulham in a five goal thriller. Leeds are currently two points, and four places better off than their West London counterparts, who occupy 9th place.

Leeds will be without Rodrigo (shoulder), Dallas (leg), Firpo (knee) and Rasmus Kristensen who picked up a late knock. Joe Gelhardt And Cody Drameh will start. Patrick Bamford completed fifteen minutes of game time against Everton midweek; and is expected to be handed a similar cameo role at Brentford. Liam Cooper also missed out on Tuesday night after picking up another muscular ailment on Carabao Cup duty but makes the bench alongside Luke Ayling.

Sergi Canos (thigh), and Ethan Pinnock (knee) will move miss the visit of West Yorkshire's finest, whilst Kristoffer Ajer is recovering from a knock, and is rated doubtful. Christian Norgaard (knock) and Pontus Jansson (ankle) face late fitness tests.

We are going to be two attacking players down vs Brentford with Rodrigo out and James gone.

Gnonto isn't in the squad

Gelhardt has the chance to do damage here today against a defence that looks wobbly at times. We’ll surely see more of Bamford as well, depending on how the day is going.

Speaking of wobbly defences, I really worry about Llorente here today. Brentford are really fast and strong up front and that makes Llorente very vulnerable. Add to that our ongoing weakness at LB and I fear we will concede here today. I’ve predicted a score draw and would be happy with that.

Should be a proper game today. None of that Everton nonsense. 2 evenly matched sides who will be trying to win and not noncing about for 90 minutes

As it happens a draw would have been enough to keep us up last season anyway as Burnley lost but our late goal and win was the icing on the cake. Another win today would be great but as others have already professed a draw would be more than acceptable.

Go Joffy lad!

Come on Leeds!

Not replacing Llorente with a decent CB who is up to PL standard has been a mistake - it will be an achilles heel all season. Loaning out Cresswell made no sense. Cooper is in the same league as Bamford in terms of being Mr Sicknote.

We have only kept one clean sheet at ER since November - and with two different managers during that time, the spotlight has to be shone partly at least on the CBs for this failing. We concede fewer goals under Marsch, but you can't get around a CB simply not being good enough.

Gelhardt starts.

Drameh starts

No Kristensen.

Cooper, Ayling and Bamford on the bench.

Pretty obvious they are trying to rush Bamford back and Cooper as well.

Neither can be anywhere close to match fit.

Nor can Ayling.

Klich changed the Wolves game. Bamford has the ability to come off the bench to score - was it against Brentford last season that he did that? Greenwood has the ability to come off and curl a free kick in and Summerville has the ability to create something from nothing.

Only way you can get match fit is to play games

Drameh there to counter Rico Henry with his pace?

I'm concerned about Kristensen; not even on the bench. Nothing was said about his being hurt.

Don't think they're rushing either Bamford or Cooper back. From what Jesse has been saying I think both could give us a good 20 - 30 minutes.

Time to see if our youngsters can step up. Gelhardt will play well, I'm sure. Drameh is being asked a lot.

Yeah that's why they are on the bench though - as seen with Bamford against Everton they probably have a set amount of minutes they want to give him - would expect Gelhardt to be subbed for Bamford around the 60 minute mark and Ayling and Cooper to not be used unless needed.

Gone are the days of Bielsa announcing who is injured in the days prior to the game and telling the opposition our starting line-up!

Drameh gets his chance - likely the reason we knocked back the opportunity for him to go out on loan. If RK is injured for a while Drameh might get a few games to show that he is as good as he believes he is - hopefully he will.
